Indian Military Buttons and those worn by Political Officials
Military buttons worn in the Indian Army before independence. Most buttons are described as large [usually about 1 inch (25mm) in diameter] or small [usually about three quarters of an inch 15-20mm] in diameter, The large size is that worn on the tunic and the small worn on cuffs or pockets and by some regiments in place of larger ones on tunics [mainly cavalry or on light weight tropical khaki uniforms]. Where there is a notable difference in size it is mentioned. Some British regimental buttons are included in this category where their button includes elements commemorating Indian service, such as the depiction of a Bengal tiger or the Assaye elephant or the inclusion of an Indian battle honour.
