104th Foot, Bengal Fusiliers, officer’s gilt 19mm, worn 1861-1881

£24.00

An excellent example of the officer’s gilt 19mm button with the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON , retaining virtually the full original gilt finish, These smaller buttons are actually scarce than the more popular large ones because there were far fewr of the on most uniforms,  The 104th Foot, Royal Bengal Fusiliers was one  of the regiments taken into the British Line after the end of the East India Company fo;;owing the Mutiny of 1857. This example retains a good proportion of the original gilt finish. The button was worn from 1861 to 1881 when it became the 2nd Bn. Royal Munster Fusiliers, being finally disbanded in 1922. All the numbered buttons 101 to 109 are rather hard to find apart from the 107th. Like the rest of this series the regiment was one of the East India Company’s units that had been formed of European troops.  sep23/4
