A handsome dress pouch of the 12th Cavalry dating from between 1903 & 1922. Decoration in gilt bullion on the regimental dark blue shows the Tudor crown above crossed swords and the regimental number XII with side scrolls inscribed ABYSSINIA, CHARASIA, PEIWAR KOTAL, KABUL 1879 and a scroll beneath inscribed AFGHANISTAN 1879-80 the whole surrounded by a laurel wreath. The pouch is sound with just a little moth damage to the top right of the flap and a couple of small moth holes to the cloth on the back of the pouch. It retains the gilt brass mounts for fixing to the cross belt. nov15/1
Before 1903 the regiment was known as the 12th BENGAL CAVALRY and tn 1922 it became the 6th DUKE OF CONNAUGHT’S OWN LANCERS after amalgamation with Watson’s Horse.
