19th century base metal representation of a miniature of the badge of a C.S.I.

A fascinating base metal representation of a miniature badge of a Companion of the Exalted Order of the Star of India. We have never seen an example of this before and can only speculate on the market it was made for. For comparative purposes one of our illustrations shows it between two contemporary miniatures, the one on the right in base metal or silver gilt showing that the item for sale is the correct size with correct ribbon, although the top bar is a safety pin. The grander version on the left is in gold but lacks the silver state suspension and is pinned to an old piece of watered silk CSI ribbon. These two are not currently for sale.  oct1/2
