55th Foot [later 2nd Border Regiment]. Officers circa 1860
£45.00
A sepia toned vintage photograph showing a large group manly uniformed officers. They wear double breasted coats and several sport miniature medals or medal ribbons. The photograph measures 9¼ x 7½ins. It has probably been removed from an old album page and there is a small area of loss towards the lower left edge. The top edge pf the photograph suggests is a copy of another photograph but the paper itself suggests this did not happen very long after the image was taken. There is scope for further research here if one could pin the date down from the medals. The regiment had fought in the Crimea and the image seems to date from fairly soon after that. The regiment became the 2nd Battalion of the Border Regiment when the numbering system ended in 1881. apr 6/5
