22nd Punjab Native Infantry. Officer’s 18mm
£15.00 £12.00
An officer’s 18mm gilt button with the backmark E. W. JACKSON, LONDON. The button has the regimental number beneath a Victorian crown and the wording PUNJAB NATIVE INFANTRY around it. This probably dates from around 1870 to the early 1880s. Earlier examples spell the first word PUNJAUB and later ones omit the word NATIVE. In 1903 its title changed to Punjabis and in 1922 it became a battalion of the `14th Punjab Regiment. The regiment’s pre-Mutiny battle honours included CARNATIC DELHI & PUNJAUB. jul24/6
