2nd Bengal Light Infantry, officer’s shoulder belt plate

An attractive shoulder belt plate of the 2nd Bengal Light Infantry. The gilt plate, 2¾ x 3¾ ins, has the boldly simple design of the regimental number 2 within a bugle surmounted by a Victorian crown in silver plate with the light infantry motto CEDE NULLIS  [ Yield to None] on a separate scroll below. We are not sure of a precise date for this item but it probably dates from that period around the end of the East India Company when the Mutiny took place in 1857. and the Company’s Army underwent massive change. sep18/1
