2nd West York Yeomanry Cavalry. A large portrait of a field officer in full dress.
£80.00
The unusually large late Victorian portrait, 11 x 9 ins, is mounted on rather scuffed old photographer’s card but remains in very decent condition and shows the Major whose regiment is helpfully identified on his sabretache as 2nd West York Yeomanry Cavalry. The regiment was disbanded and raised again a number of times in the 19th century but studious analysis of Army Lists should probably be able to produce his name. He is a well decorated Crimean veteran and it is likely that one of the three clasps on his Crimean Medal is for Balaklava as he is most likely to have been serving in a regular cavalry regiment at that period. He also wears the Turkish Crimean Medal, an Order of he Medjidie, and a French award. aug30/2
