38th Bengal Native Infantry, officer’s gilt 16mm HEIC

An officer’s example of a 16mm gilt button of the 38th Bengal Native Infantry as worn from 1828 until 1857 when the regiment mutinied at Delhi early in the Mutiny that saw the end of the East India Company. It has the design of the regimental number within a garter bearing the battle honour SERINGAPATAM . It has the backmark RANKIN & Co. CALCUTTA and retains a good amount of the background original gilt with loss where the high points of the design have been rubbed, nov14/3
