Small 16mm officer’s flat button of the 40th Pathans with the design of crossed Khyber knives behind a parrying shield. Unusually the button is of English silver with the hallmark BIRMINGHAM 1936 with the maker’s mark of the Goldsmith’s & Silversmith’s Co. These flat buttons are usually used on the waistcoat of an officer’s mess dress. apr27/2
