41st (The Welsh) Regiment of Foot, 25mm officer’s button

A well struck 25mm officer’s button of the 40th (The Welsh) Regiment of Foot with backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON . The.  button is gilt but has a blackened finish which is rather confusing as we cannot decide whether the black is an attempt to produce a blackened version or some sort of staining. It looks rather like matt paint. The 41st, which became the 1st Bn. The Welsh Regt. from 1881, is possibly the hardest to find of the numbered line regiments.   feb15/3
