48th Foot, Northamptonshire Regiment, brass 25mm.

A 25mm sized numbered button of the 48th Foot, Northamptonshire Regiment.  The  tunic button is a brass example with the backmark  FIRMIN & SONS LD. LONDON. This is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881, when the regiment became 1st Bn The Northamptonshire Regiment. apr14/1

It may be  noted that this button varies from the officer’s example shown in this category not only in being brass rather than gilt but also in not having the more usual rim.
