4th Royal Irish Dragoon Guards: a good cdv of a named officer, 1860s
£120.00
A very good named carte de visite by T Cranfield, 115 Grafton St., Dublin named in ink at the bottom as R Wright. Robert James Wright appears in Hart’s Army List 1863 as a Lieutenant in the 4th (Royal Irish) Regiment of Dragoon Guards where he is noted as having been commissioned as an ensign in 1857: he has disappeared from the list by 1868. His sword is of the distinctive pattern adopted by this cavalry regiment in about 1850. An illustration of the pattern is shown as it appears in Brian Robson’s Swords of the British Army [National Army Museum 1996]. jan4/2
