55th Regt. of Foot, the Border Regiment, officer’s 18mm

£14.00

An excellent example of an officer’s gilt button of the 14mm size worn on the tunic between 1855, when it was known as the 55th (Westmoreland)  Regt. of Foot, until 1881 when it became the 2nd Battalion of the Border Regiment. The dragon beneath the Victorian crown represents its battle honour for the China war. The button has the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON. The button retains full original gilt finish and has the long shank as used on epaulette buttons instead of the screw fixing variety.  jul13/5
