5th Regt of Foot Northumberland Fusiliers.  Brass 18mm button showing the regiment’s traditional badge of St George & the Dragon above the Roman numeral 5.  The backmark is FIRMIN’S LONDON. This pattern was worn from 1855 to 1881 after which the regiment became the 1st & 2nd Bns. The Royal Northumberland Fusiliers. There are other versions of this button with a Roman V. There are also versions with the figure facing right, as is the case with most of regimental buttons showing an animal. aug28/2
