71st Highland Light Infantry 25 mm brass button,1855-1881

71st Highland Light Infantry. A 25 mm other ranks brass button with the  backmark SMITH & WRIGHT. BIRMINGHAM.  Although the steel back plate of the button is somewhat corroded other ranks buttons are harder to find than those of officers.  An example of the button worn from 1855 to 1881 when the regiment became the 1st Bn. The Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regt.) The design shows the regimental number within a light infantry bugle beneath a Victorian crown. The regiment’s 2nd Bn. was the previous 74th Foot.   oct29/4
