72nd Foot, Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders 1855-81, Officer’s 25mm
£32.00
72nd Foot, Duke of Albany’s Own Highlanders, an example of the 25mm officer’s button of the pattern worn between 1855 and 1881, when it became the 1st Bn. The Seaforth Highlanders (Ross-shire Buffs, The Duke of Albany’s Own). The backmark is JENNENS & Co. LONDON. Although of officer’s construction the button has lost much of its original gilt finish. The lack of the Prince of Wales’s feathers suggests it is an earlier example of the button than most one encounters. mar12/1
The regiment was raised by Lord Seaforth and first saw actice service in India at the siege of Cuddalore in 1783.
