73rd Foot, Perthshire officer’s gilt 19mm

73rd Foot Perthshire. A good 19mm officer’s gilt button with the backmark STILLWELL & SON LONDON. This is the pattern worn from 1855 to 1881 when the regiment became known as the 2nd Bn. The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regt.). The design incorporates thistles around the regimental number beneath a Victorian crown. There are now only traces of the original gilt finish. The regiment first saw service in India in 1780 against Tippoo Sultan. oct29/10 SOLD 26th December 2024
