80th (Staffordshire Volunteers) Regt. of Foot. officer’s gilt 25mm, 1855-1881

POA

A good example of the officer’s 25mm gilt button of the 80th (Staffordshire Volunteers) Regiment of Foot with the backmark OAKSHETT & Co. 15 MILL ST, CONDUIT ST. LONDON This is the pattern worn on the officer’s tunic from 1855 until 1881 when the unit became the 2nd Bn. The South Staffordshire Regiment .  There is a little rubbing on the higher points of the design and there is something which looks like black paint on the reverse. The maker is one of those encountered infrequently.  sep3/7   RESERVED 10th September 2023
