8th (The King’s) Regiment An officer’s gilt coatee button 22mm
£60.00
An very good example the officer’s 22mm gilt button as worn on the coatree of the 8th (The King’s) Regiment prior to 1855 The button, which has the backmark JENNENS & Co. LONDON, retains most of the original gilt finish with just a little rubbing on the high points of the horse. On this exmple the white horse of Hanover appears within the garter facing left. There are also examples where the horse faces right for wear in pairs on the double breasted coatee. The design was largely retained on the post 1855 numbered tunic button although a wreath was added around the garter. It is one of the scarcer buttons in this series. apr15/3
