A dramatic coloured print of cavalry, dated 1899
£45.00
The coloured print is mounted on board and measures 21¾ x 17½ ins and the original artist [indistinct name lower right dated ’99] has captured the dash and splendour of British cavalry, However the attention to detail is, to say the least, haphazard. The troopers wear tunics and helmets of dragoons but the red and white plumes, which were worn by the 5th, have added blue for a touch of extra patriotism. Their lances have finely fluttering pennons of correct red and white but would have only been carried by lancers. Nevertheless this is a boldly decorative scene. may2/2
