A late Viictorian / Edwardian pipe tamper
£45.00
The figure of a man in top hat and tail coat is 42mm tall and is marked across the shoulders E.P.N.S. The silver plating seems to be quite generous as even where it is rubbed by handling the base metal is not bleeding through. These little everyday objects for the pipe smoker are made in many forms, often meant to be amusing although the contemporary references often elude us today. I haven’t seen another example like this. They are more often brass, which would have been cheaper.
