A veteran officer of the Crimean War in his coffin, photographed in Banff, Scotland
£28.00
A cabinet card with a highly unusual photograph of a deceased army officer in his coffin, 1870s. The bearded officer wears a Crimea Medal with two clasps on his scarlet tunic and is identified on the verso in contemporary hand as Colonel Dickson. The buttons seem as though he may have been member of the Indian Army Staff Corps and his rank badges are partially visible on his collar, dating the image to before 1880. The card has been trimmed along the bottom to fit a frame but we know from another example that we had that it is by Rae & Son, Banff. jan2/3
