Admiral Viscount Hood. A proof engraved portrait of `1831

A good engraving of Samuel, 1st Viscount Hood [1724 – 1816]. The image is 5 x 4 ins but on a large sheet, marked Proof measuring 19 x 13 ins. After a paiting by Joshua Reynolds the print is published by Harding & Lepard, Pall Mall East and is dated 1831. Lord Hood saw service in the European wars of the 1750s but rose to senior command as c – in – c on the North American Station during the American War of Indepenedence and later commanded the Mediterrnean Fleet during the French Revolutionary Wars.  nov1/1
