An unidentified General Officer in a tropical setting, circa 1912

The attractive full length portrait, 8 x 5 ins, is by American Photo Co, Habana although we have so far failed to identify the sitter. The medals on the medal bar are: Companion of the Order of the Bath, Coronation or Delhi Durbar medal 1911 [these have the same ribbon and obverse], Ashanti Star 1896, India Medal 1896 with two clasps, Queen’s South Africa Medal with 4 clasps, King’s South Africa Medal with 2 clasps. The first two breast stars are Knight Commander of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath and Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of St Michael and St George. The other two orders are foreign and the lower one looks most like the Russian Order of St Anna. There is a little loss along the lower edge, a crease along the top edge, and a little loss of surface upper right edge but none of these affect the image of the general.           aug21/2
