British officer in polo kit, probably c 1870s
£140.00
An attractive cart de visite shoeing a British officer striking a studio pose in his polo kit. The cdv by Bourne & Shepherd. India shows the young office, most probably from an Indian cavalry regiment, with his polo stick and he wears a pagri. Someone with the right technology would probably be able to determine his regiment by recognising the colours of the stripes in his pagri and the kula. Although hundreds of cdv portraits of Indian Army officers have passed through our hands in the last ten years I cannot recall another of one in polo kit. apr9/2
