Bates, Jeffery: Delhi Durbars, Royal, and Viceregal Tours in India. Catalogue 114. Bates & Hindmarch [Edinburgh] 2009 1st edition 8vo.
A priced selling catalogue of books, photographs and a few other items connected with the Delhi Durbars of 1877, 1903, 1911, Royal Tours of India made by HRH Prince of Wales (later Edward VII), HRH Prince of Wales (later George V) and HRH Prince of Wales (later Edward VIII) and the Autumn Tours of various late 19th Century and early 20th Century Viceroys such as the Earl of Elgin and Lord Curzon. 44pp including illustrated card covers, with 34 coloured illustrations, stapled as issued, new condition. The catalogue includes many extremely scarce items with low print runs and very complete details of pagination and illustration are given. The catalogue is no longer an opportunity to buy these items, almost all which are now sold to libraries and collectors but it provides lastingly useful information and is a useful reference to what is sometimes available on these subjects. Amongst the very rare items illustrated and described are a magnificent signed royal portrait of 1910/11 in a silver plated frame as presented to Indian rulers who were Honorary Aides de Camp to the King Emperor and a special general officer’s sword presented to General Sir Dighton Probyn V.C. by H.R.H. the Prince of Wales in 1875. The shipping charge on this item is £1 in the UK, £3 to Europe, and £4 to the wider world. mar12/1
