A mounted DSO, OBE group of eight medals attributed to Major Samuel Edward Norris comprising: DSO [George V], OBE [George V, Military], QSA with four clasps [ Cape Colony, Rhodesia, Orange Free State, Transvaal ], KSA with 2 clasps, 1914-15 Star, BWM, Victory, Defence Medal 1945. The froup is mounted on a bar and well toned but and in excellent condition. there is some old sewing thread on the Victory where the oak leaf for his MID has been. sep14/1
He was born in Mudgee, New South Wales in 1874, served in the ranks in the NSW Bushmen but transferred to the Liverpool Regt. in 1900, Lt. 1905. Capt. 1910, Major 1915. T/Lt. Col. commanding 4th Bn King’s Regt. 1918. His DSO appears in the London Gazette . After WW1 he servd as a staff officer in Northern Command. The presence of the Defence Medal shows that he still serving in some capacity during WW2 though he left the regular army in abput 1924. We are not sure when he received the OBE,
