Early 19th century button by Shaw of London
£35.00
The large 26mm silver plated button has the cypher GR beneath a Georgian crown and has the backmark SHAW LONDON . The open backed, flat button is in good condition but there has been rubbing to the rim allowing the underlying copper to bleed though. Shaw is not an often seen maker but appears to have begun making buttons in the 1760s. Elsewhere in this category there is a William IV button by Shaw. Although we are not sure of the precise group who have worn this button we believe it dates from the reign of George III. mar6/2
