H.R.H. Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught & Strathearn, A good and somewhat unusual bust length photograph, 117 x 90 mm. tipped to an old page from a volume of the Army & Navy Magazine 18832. The duke wears the military uniform of a Major General with decorations including a large neck badge of the Order of the Star of India. Prince Arthur [named after one of his godparents, the Duke of Wellington , with whom he shared a birthday, see a painting elsewhere on the website] In 1882 the duke was serving in South Africa and it was not until 1886 that his main military service in India began, commanding in Bombay.   oct20/3
