EGERTON. Baron Egerton of Tatton [Cheshire] a 26mm crested livery button.

A silver plated 26mm crested livery button with the backmark STANDISH & Co. MOUNT STREET LONDON W. The button displays the crest of a lion rampant on a chapeau supporting an arrow, all beneath a baron’s coronet. The barony was created in 1859 for the politician, William Tatton Egerton, of Tatton [1806-1883] and the button must date from his time or possibly that of his son until he was created 1st Earl Tatton in 1897. There is some bleeding of the underlying copper on high points of the design.  feb26/3
