File copy. The Earl of Lytton, Viceroy, at the time of the 1877 Imperial Assemblage in Delhi

£35.00

A very good full length portrait of the Earl of Lytton, who was Viceroy of India from 1876 to 1880. The visible image is 14 x 10 ins [35.5 x 20.5 cm]and shows the Viceroy at the time of the Imperial Assemblage of 1877 in Delhi. He appears, robed in splendour, wearing the mantle of the Grand Master of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India which differs from the mantle worn by GCSI’s in having repeat images of the star . The office was held by each Viceroy during his time in office, after which he would wear the regalia of a GCSI.  nov26/3

Like all the images in this category this is a copy made by our printer in exactly the same size as the original which we sold at some time in the last ten years. It is printed on thin white card leaving a margin around the image. These were made for our own reference purposes and we are now releasing the very few extra copies we had made at the time from an original now in a private or institutional collection.
