General Sir John Ewart, 93rd & 78th Highlanders

A rather worn old cabinet card by Maull & Fox, 187A Piccadilly, London showing the hero of the Thin Red Line in the Crimea and of Lucknow during the Indian Mutiny when he commanded the first storming party at the Sikunderbagh. In this full length portrait General Sir John Archibald Ewart, K.C.B. [1821-1904] wears highland full dress, his left sleeve fastened to his doublet as he lost that arm at Lucknow.    aug5/2
