Printed by W Kohler after a sketch by R E Sly: GWALIOR from a sketch taken by a British Officer representing the quick advance of the British troops on the enemy during the sapture of Maharajpoor and Punniar, with a distant view of Jourah – nearly 6000 killed and wounded. Death of Major General Churchill. Published by Page & Blackwood, 15 Strand, March 28th 1844.

The coloured lithograph measures 11 x 9 ins and is mounted on a piece of modern white card. There is a closed and repaired tear from the bottom just after the word Punniar. Maj Gen Charles Churchill, C.B., formerly of the 31st Foot and at this point Quartermaster to General Sir Hugh Gough, is shown in the left corner falling to the shot of a sniper at Maharajpoor. This victory was rewarded by two medals, unusually in the form of bimetal stars, one for each battle.   mar7/1.
