GWALIOR. The Maharaja in a group portrait with Sardars
£75.00
A good photograph showing H.H. Maharaja Jivaji Rao Scindia of Gwalior with six of his powerful hereditary Sardars. The 11¼ x 7¼ ins photograph came frmo an old disbound album put together around 1940 by the photgraphers Dias. It shows the ruler seared in a silver mounted throne with some of hus advisory Sardars. All wear the typical Maratha turban, often called the butterfly turban and they carry sword of the tulwar style. at other times they carry swords of British design. There are marks on the verso where it has been tipped to an album page and there is a very small loss to the top left corner. aug 24/1
