H .H. Jayaji Rao Scindia, Maharaja of Gwalior
£35.00
A carte de visite of the 1870s showing the seated Maharaja Jayaji Rao Scindia of Gwalior [1834 – 1886] kept his state loyal to the British during the Indian Mutiny despite the fact s that his ancestors had fought them and many of his subjects and troops wanted to join the rebels. This cdv lacks the lower right corner of the card but the image itself is intact. The card has no photographer’s credit and is probably a cheaper but contemporary pirated copy of the cdv of Bourne & Shepherd image. oct3/1
