H.R.H. Edward Prince of Wales, Royal Tour of Canada – a railway journey

£250.00

Visit of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales Canada 1924. Annotated Time Table. Canadian National Railways [1924] 8vo [9¼ x 6¼ ins]q6.

Folding map with route [Grand Trunk Railway System, Central Vermont Railway] in rear pocket, frontispiece and 30 other illustrations [2 to a page] from photographs, 65pp. Original blue full leather gilt, upper board blocked with the Prince’s arms, excellent clean condition throughout, top edges gilt, a few outer margins a little carelessly cut, tissue guards retained, a few of pages of illustrations are loose but undamaged [e.g. the one illustrated showing the Prince. With blue box also gilt stamped with the royal arms. The only other copies we have seen are in printed paper covered boards and we presume this was a very limited special edition – possibly limited to the prince’s party and the directors listed on the final page. The timetable gives very precise timings and distances for each call from New London, Connecticut to High River, Alberta.  An especially handsome and attractively presented royal souvenir. apr2/2

H.R.H. Edward. Prince of Wales was later to King Edward VIII and, after his abdication, Duke of Windsor. This tour followed his tour of India and the Far East in 1921-22.
