H. R. H. Prince Albert Victor of Wales. a rare railway timetable from his 1890 visit to India
£150.00
Time Table of Special Train conveying His Royal Highness Prince Albert Victor Christian Edward of Wales, K.G., K.P. from Malia to Junagad and Junagad to Veraval, 20th and 21st March 1890. No printing details but probably prined by or for the B.G.J.P. Railway.
Single folded sheet giving a page size of 7 x 4½ ins, printed on three sides, tear cut along top of first page with very small loss and a single small hole through both pages top right. This journey in Gujarat was made between the 11 gun salute state of Junagad and Veraval on the southern coast of Gujarat. This visit to India by the Prince, an officer in the 10th Royal Hussars, was very private and very little ephemera seems to survive. When the Prince, known in the family as Eddie, returned to England he was created Duke of Clarence & Avondale. The eldest son of H.R.H. the Prince of Wales [later Edward VII], his death in 1892 from pneumonia resulted in his intended bride, Princess Mary of Teck marrying his younger brother George who was to succeed their father as King. jul20/4
