A very attractive half length profile portrait of the young grandaughter of Queen Victoria on a cabinet card by Mr H. S. Mendelsohn’s Studio, 14 Pembridge Crescent, Notting Hill Gate, W. identified on the front of the card as H.R.H. Princess Patricia of Connaught. The princess was born in 1886 to H.R.H. Prince Arthur of Connaught & Strathearn, who spent much of his military career serving in India. Her mother was Princess Louise of Prussia. Princess Patricia was awarded the Imperial Order of the Crown of India [C.I.] in 1911 and in 1918 became Royal Colonel of Princess Patricia’s Canadaian Light Infantry. She renounced her royal title on marrying Alexander Ramsay a son of the Earl of Dalhousie and was known as Lady Patricia Ramsay. Her husband was a naval officer, later an admiral, and adc to her father. Sge died in 1974. jul27/1
