HEIC. A single metal epaulette of the style worn by officers in the early 19th century

£250.00

The single plated epaulette is constructed in two parts. The section with decorative scales is plated on copper, whereas the section with trophies of arms, flags, and a knight’s helm is plated on brass. The top scale with the plain copper button is now loose. A very large Bath star in gilt brass is attached to the scales. This style was worn by cavalry and horse artillery officers of the East India Company in the late Georgian period on shell or stable jackets. We have come across a few examples worn by the Madras Light Cavalry but they were probably worn in the other Presidency Armies too. With minor detail differences it seems to have been a universal pattern differentiated by the button.  oct11/1
