Burton, Major Reginald George, 1st Infantry Hyderabad Contingent (84th Russell’s Infantry: A History of the Hyderabad Contingent. Office of the Superintendent of Government Printing, India [Calcutta] 1905 1st edition 8vo
12 illustrations including folding battle plans, v, [i], 320pp, xc [appendices and index]. Original green cloth gilt with regimental badge to upper board, a few marks to rear board but generally a very good, clean copy, a few edge tears without loss to folding plans. A very useful work on a complicated and important unit. Written rather in the manner of an official history there are very helpful dates in the margins throughout. Perkins 407 calls this An admirable publication, stating that The author provides a clear explanation of the of the Regt’s complex roots, its services to the HEIC and later the Crown, and in particular its role during the Mutiny (pages 143 to 245). There is liberal mention of awards and casualties throughout. Although there are modern reprints orignal copies like this seldom appear on the market. may17/2
