Australian Yeomanry sergeant photographed by a West Kensington artist.
£35.00
A cdv sized 2 x 3¾ ins portrait on a cabinet card by Bunnett, York House, Edith Road, West Kensington showing the sergeant three quarter length. The dark coloured facings on his uniform should help to identify his unit although the portrait is rather faded. He is possibly member of the Victoria Mounted Rifles and could well have been with a contingent attending Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1898. Separate inscriptions on the verso could help in identifying the sitter. The upper one, in contemporary ink reads To my dear little Gladys From Uncle Charlie Dec. 1900 and the lower, later one in pencil reads Charles Patterson, V.C. (Melbourne) Australia. A Victor Charles Patterson did win a Victoria Cross serving as a private in the Australian Army during WW2. jan14/2
