The full plate vintage photograph measures 11 x 8½ ins and is pasted to an old card album page. There are a few vertical marks to the image. Jhansi is best known here as being the small Maratha state ruled by Rani Lakshmibai [1828-1858] who became a champion of the people during the 1857 Rebellion. Although she escaped from the fort after the British took back control she died from woulds received at a battle in Gwalior after she had joined forces with Tantya Topi. apr23/3
