King’s Royal Rifle Corps. Portraits of two officers, circa 1903

£22.00

Two good photographic portraits of junior officers in dress uniform of the King’s Royal Rifle Corps on two sides of an old ppiece of stout album card measurimg 8¾ x 5 ins. On one side in a bust length portrait, 5¼ x 3¾ ins, identified on the card as Guy Mellor who wears a Queen’s South Africa Medal with 5 clasps. This must be Lieutenant James Gerald Guy Mellor who was commissioned into the regiment in January 1901 and is noted in Hart’s Army List 1903 as having been awarded the QSA with three clasps. Presumably it was a little out of date. The other side of the card has a larger 6 x 4 ins bust length portrait identified on the card simply as Bonham Carter although we have not found him in army lists around this date, He does appear in the photograph to wear a QSA with just a little of its ribbon showing above his cross belt.  aug13/3
