A very good carte de visite of H.H. Maharaja Prithvi Singh of Kishangarh taken by BOURNE & SHEPHERD, PHOTOGRAPHERS, INDIA almost certainly around 1875-77, the years coinciding with the visit of H.R.H The Prince of Wales and the Imperial Assemblge at Dehli. The Maharaja succeeded as ruler as an infant in 1840 and died in 1878 having ruled of over the 15 gun salute state between Jodhpur and Jaipur for almost all his life. The imposing heavily bearded and bejewelled ruler holds a typical ceremonial sword of tulwar style.    jun29/2
