A good photograph of the Viceroy, Vuctor Hope, the Marquess of Linlithow arriving on the Royal or Vuceregal Train with Lady Linlithgow, probably 1940 on an official visit to Gwalior. In this  5 x 4¼ ins photograph [printed with a white border that has been tipped to an old album page] the Viceroy wears grey morning dress with the very distinctive star of Grand Master of the Most Exalted Order the Star of India. The hseavily diamend encrusted signifies the office he held in an ex officio capacity from 1936 to1944 after which he reverted to a GCSI. oct14/2

Provenance. This phtograph came to ub ina large album put together by Diaz for the Maharaja of Gwalior.
