Sir Michael Knatchbull. 14th Baronet and 5th Baron Brabourne [1895-1939] had previously served as Governor of Bombay and was Acting Viceroy in 1938. He died in office just two days after the date of this invitation.

Lt Col D G Sundius-Smith was commanding officer of the 1st 15th Punjab Regiment.
