LUCKNOW. The Chota Imambara Hosainabad & the gateway to Secunderbagh
£120.00
A fine large, 11 x 8½ ins, late 19th century photograph of the Chota Imambara assembly hall built 1838 by Nawab Muhammad Ali Shah, also used as a mausoleum for him and his mother. A great example of late Mughal architecture. It is pasted to an old card album leaf and on the reverse is a slightly larger image of the entrance gate to Secunderbagh, a scene of fierce fighting during the Indian Mutiny 1857-58. The two images are both in excellent condition: the first is sepia toned the second shows the gateway before walls were built in front of it as it is to be seen today. apr28/1
