£275.00
A List of the Officers of the Army, Ordnance and Medical Departments, serving under the Presidency of Fort St. George: with an Index. Fort St. George, Adjt. General’s Office, 1st. August 1819. Compiled for the benefit of the Male Asylum, and printed at the Government Gazette Press, by the Boys of the Charity [Madras].
[i Contents List], 173pp, xxii Index, [viii Casualty List]. Modern dark blue half leather gilt cleverly retaining original blue paper covered boards with original printed label ARMY LIST, 1819, a very sound copy with strong, clean paper throughout. This copy was one of those printed with interleaved blank leaves, usually used in regimental headquarters. The copy only occasional sparse annotation on those pages or on the text pages although it has a provenance from the name in a contemporary hand on the title label C. Marriott and a late Victorian inscription on a blank before the title page B. Gordon, Lt. Col. 22nd Punjab Regt. 12/1/95. A fascinating and extremely useful information, not all of which can be found in the East India Register of this year. It includes lists of the commissioned officers of those HM Army regiments serving in the Presidency – 13th & 22nd Lt. Dragoons, 1st, 30th, 34th, 46th, 53rd, 69th, & 89th Regiments of Foot. may14/1
Major Charles Marriott appears in this volume in the 2nd Bn. of the 5th Native Infantry, noted as being Paymaster of Stipends, Vellore.
