Madras Light infantry pouch with its fine Victorian badge
£475.00
A small black, patent leather pouch, 5½ x 3 ins, the flap mounted with an officer’s fine gilt badge showing the central strung bugle of a light infantry regiment beneath a Victorian crown. This is within a laurel wreath with a small scroll at the base with the battle honour AVA, all above a scroll with the motto NOW OR NEVER. The leather to the flap is particularly bright but that forming the hinge over the black box is somewhat fragile looking. One of the leather loops to the sides for attaching to a belt is lacking. We are not cetrain of the regiment but it could well be the 3rd Madras or Palamcottah Light Infantry which did earn the battle honour for the First Burma War. aug1/1
